Mobile call rates likely to go up by 30p/min
Disappointed with Cabinet decision on fixing minimum or base price at Rs 14,000 crore for spectrum, the telecom industry today said the recommendations will prove to be “regressive” for the sector’s growth and that operators would be forced to raise tariffs for consumers.
GSM operators body COAI, which countsBharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellularamong its members, said the move will impact tariffs by 30 paise per minute on an average.
“It will continue to have an impact on the tariffs to the extent of about 30 paisa per minute. The effect on finances is that an amount of Rs 3,20,000 crore of additional debt that will have to be laid on the industry,” COAI said.
Buy online rail tickets without cards or net banking
State Bank of India customers will be able to pay for online train bookings through mobile banking using the Interbank Mobile Payment System that is available to all depositors.
After selecting their tickets on the IRCTC website, customers will be given an option to pay through mobile banking in addition to internet banking and through card. SBI customers can then enter their mobile number, the mobile money ID and one time password which can be generated through their mobile phone.

Microsoft takes on Gmail with new email service ‘Outlook’
With Hotmail no longer ‘hottest’ email service in the town, Microsoft has launched Outlook.com, a new web mail service, to take on Google’s extremely popular Gmail. The new email service comes with “virtually unlimited” storage and integrates Skype, the popular video chat service that Microsoft bought last year.
Just like other email services, Outlook.com too will serve advertisements to users. Though Microsoft is saying there would not be display advertisements. This seems to be in response to the complaints from people who use Hotmail, which serves banner advertisements.
Google Launches Google Fiber 1Gbps Internet Service
Google is launching its ultra-fast 1Gb-per-second Google Fiber Internet and Fiber TV service today in Kansas City.
Google announced last week that the gigabit network was coming, and here it is. Lucky residents of Kansas City, Kansas, and Kansas City, Missouri, can pre-register now at the Google Fiber website and rally their neighbors to pre-register to get Google Fiber (Google is building the network by demand).
Google Fiber promises to be 100 times faster than the average American broadband speed. To put this into perspective, using Google Fiber is sort of like driving from New York City to San Francisco in under a half hour.
Google launches scientific calculator
Next time, you need to do a quick calculation, you can head to Google. The search giant has added a scientific calculator to its varied array of features.
The company’s new 34-button calculator appears the moment you type in the word “calculator” or a mathematical expression say “4×5″ into the search box.
The calculator gives users ability to do everything from arithmetic to trigonometric calculations. The calculator has functions for calculating sines, cosines, square roots and tangents as well as also dedicated buttons for Pi and Euler’s number.
Not just this, Users can also use Google’s voice search feature – found in mobile version and inChrome browser – to do calculations without actually touching keyboard.
